Alizee

Today I am listening to Alizee songs. Kourosh also likes her music a lot. At my place it is the first time when he could hear her music.


Today Kourosh helped only 3 hours and after lunch decided to go to the local internet cafe to spend there all day long. There is internet much faster than at my home and he doesn't disturb me to rest in my study (while he is my guest I moved from my bedroom to the study where I have a short couch, but good enough for me, so I sleep here). For lunch I cooked Polish dish - żurek [goorreq]. Kourosh likes it very much, so I am glad. He has eaten two plates of żurek. I have used for the żurek losts of goat milk, so it was really tasty. I like it too.

I do love to listen to Robbie Williams music... It is so full of romanticism... So when I wake up in the morning first thing I do is turning on his music... 


My present guest also likes the music so we listen to it aloud. The music flows across all rooms and fills them to the top... :)


Today the last day of carrying logs and poles. Today they all should be under roof and left to dry there. When they are dry, I intend to polish them and then paint with special anti fungus paint. Then, they will be ready to use them as the poles for new fence around the vegetables garden and also around orchards and the yard.


The weather is perfect for replanting some plants which are still in the pots and containers. I would like to plant at least part of them today.

I didn’t replant any plants – instead of that I had to go to correct neighbours fence as it got broken and my horses went to his side. It took me some time to repair it. Then I needed to collect some herbs for the lunch and dinner. Kourosh took most poles and logs into the stable. For the lunch I made a kind of spaghetti for Kourosh because he is not fond of fried turkish liver which I cooked for us. At evening we milked forgotten goat and I made pudding for desert from it and gave one cup of goat milk to Kourosh, because he is fond of it.


The weather is “fucking beautiful” :) (I have learned that expression from Kourosh, who is American English speaking despite of being Canadian, since he grew up in Southern California). All day long rain for a couple of days. If not rains heavily, a slight rain sprays delicately. If there is no heavy or light rain – the sky is gloomy with rare splash of sunshine. But it is to finish in two days. However Kourosh decided to go to Romania, since he discovered the weather there is 30 C everyday which suits him a lot. He got used to the Californian climate and longs for the Sun. He asked me to take formal pics of him, needed to his CV which he is going to send to some English teaching schools in Poland, Russia and Romania and now he is writing his resume and intentional letters.


For me, the woman of north – the weather is okay. In fact I like the weather more than recent hot days when I couldn’t go out to do anything outside, because it was so incredibly hot. For plants it is great, because they have a lot of water so grow faster. It’s also perfect weather for planting plants. I want to do it tomorrow.

Kourosh

Definitely farm life is not for Kourosh. He doesn’t complain, at least to me, he does his bit of help, but I can see how unhappy he is and how much he strives for being in Cracow. He treats my place as a stop or refuge  before finding a teaching job somewhere in Poland or in Russia. He helps at the farm for 5 hours in the noon, then after a meal he uses my computer to search wildly for a job. He declares he wants to stay here at least one month or longer, but I think he will leave my place as soon as he finds other place to go, preferably teaching job.
I don’t mind much, as this bit of help which I have from him is needed here. He and I last in a symbiotic deal for the moment. Of course, I would love to host here someone who really shares my passion for the Nature and farming life. I believe, that soon or later someone like me arrives here and then we will have much fun from sharing our time together.

The Sun

I opened eyes this morning to see window full of the Sun. I hope the day won't be too hot. Soon I go to make a breakfast and wake up the Canadian. I wonder if he slept well.
Yesterday we had nice walk around the vast village of mine. I took some scenic pics. Soon I will paste them in here.

Today for dinner szaszłyk [shashlyk], boiled young potatoes in skins, salad, goat milk. I am glad Kourosh likes goat milk :) He cannot drink cows milk - he's allergic to it. Goat milk is okay to him.

A Canadian arrived

Today to my farm a peculiar Canadian was delivered from Kraków. He is a kind of travelling musician. More like a sound technician, but he also can play some instruments. He was very lucky to have travelled all the way for free. It took him just one day to get here. So he is. He was brought here by 3 Polish electrician travelling from Białystok to Ełk. He was given 4 beers to drink, so when he came here his talk was a bit slow and hard, but after some hours and a long walk to the nearby village he recovered. He learns Russian at evening. I help him with it.

Kourosh is a very sociable person and I am a hermit. I try my best to entertain him. I do most talking. Kourosh stays silent.Maybe he needs to rest from social life of big cities.

quietly busy in a garden

In the morning I milked the goats and then was quietly busy in the garden. I am glad I have done what I had planned. I have sown 6 new vegetables. Then helpful rain started to water them which is great – I don’t have to do it and the seeds will start grow already now. 

I have found time to read a few pages of the novel I read since a several days and make lecho and put it into jars. I also cooked the dinner and made salad and desert. 

Now I want to take a bath and go to bed to continue the reading. But rural papers are laying not touched... hmmmmm... I had no time for them. Maybe tomorrow I will have a look at them... Today the weather was too nice to waste it in the house. I preferred to be outdoors and to do something effective. From each seed which I sew today I should have nice vegetables. Little seed but big nice juicy vegetable. The Nature is amazing :)

The misterious number

I am trying to send an sms to someone who is waiting for it, but I cannot. I don't have credit at my mobile phone (just today morning it finished) and I don't know in what mobile network is his number. I tried many websites and - no result.  Why people don't say in what network they have their number when they give it to me?? I have found all possible combinations, and no one fit to the number. The misterious number.

Wow... what a date!

In Poland we believe, that 13th day of a month, particularly the Friday – this is very bad day.

The best is to stay home if you don’t want to be unlucky this day :)
Well, I have decided to stay at my rancho, but of course I am going to do something outdoors. My garden waits!
There is still much work there which should be done. I need to plant more pumpkins, cucumbers and sow other veggies. Also these which are already growing need my attention – weeding.


Another task which waits for me – is catching one goat. It won’t be easy, since the goat is wild and fast. But I will try. And horses need some fresh straw in their stable. And I need to take care of various rural papers in my study.


I also think about starting writing the novel or at least some short stories. I don’t have that much time to write in the same time – time consuming novel and my everyday blog, but I will try.


The morning is sunny, positive. Let’s eat some nutritious breakfast and start doing something outdoors.

The day passed quickly. What I have plan for today – I have done. Even more – I corrected electric fence. So I have done more than I have planned. With exception of working on rural papers.
I intend to work on them during the weekend. But in the morning I will be busy with milking goats and in the garden.

I was to write a novel

I was to write a novel. I have got lots of material for several novels now.

Although I think I should start with writing just short stories. I have been collecting the material for all my life. Part of it is in my memory, other part at my computers. I can take them when I want and can write. Now, in what language? If I write them in Polish, they will be well written. If I write them in English – they will not be that perfect, but while writing them I will learn more English vocabulary and expressions, I will improve my language skills, besides more people will be able to read them. 

First I need some writing workshops. I think the best workshop is reading other people’s novels and learning how they are build. Then, I may use them as a kind of pattern. I also may use their extended vocabulary and new to me phrases. 

What do I do?

"What do I do?" - asked familiar voice. It was my voice :))) Yeah.... I don't know! I don't know yet, but surely soon I will find out the right path :)

Tomato sauces

I have made 3 vegetarian tomato sauces and put them into jars, milked 2 goats, so I have milk for pudding and pancakes. Now I am just about to make lecho and maybe cucumber salad. Maybe I also put the cucumbers into jars? I have enough cucumbers to make some winter supplies. 

In the morning I had muesli with goat milk and a sliced banana. It was delicious.

I studied the package description so now I know how to make delicious muesli from my own ingredients. I need only buy oats somewhere and collect fruits and dry them or freeze them. I haven’t seen oats in Biedronka for a long time, but maybe in Lewiatan? I need to check. I love the oat flavour. 

It was raining all day, but now is sunny again. I think about going to the garden for a while.

I got to the half of the novel “The colonists”. This American family has real problems. They have to tackle with serial serious threats and evil. Me too. So I understand them very well and feel a kind of empathy. I am in the same situation like they are. Reading their story encourages me. There are others who have to fight for survival. Like me.


I spent some time in the veggetable garden. I replanted some pumpking seedlings from pots into soil. They are big. But those which I planted 3 weeks ago, are much bigger now. I hope they all will have enough time to produce big pumpkins before autumn.


At supper I prepared just muesli with fresh peaches and goat milk. It was good. I think I became muesli fun :)

Resting

Due to my present condition I decided to rest for a few days. Yesterday I had to go by bike to nearby town, where I have ordered some nice pancake plates ideal for my pancakes. After 10km journey I felt better and even much better. I managed to bike 40km yesterday. I returned with heavy shopping carrying the plates, muesly, vegetables. But today morning I felt again bad, so i did just basic everyday farming duties and now try to rest. Soon I would like to make lecho, but first I need to have a break.


I am cooking dinner: turkey, lecho, potatoes. It would be good to make a fresh cucumber salad with dill.

The herbal tea

Today I still don't feel well. I need to rest and take some painkillers. As I don't take artificial painkillers - I have collected some herbs and made myself a tea. It should help.

The Bloody Monday

This Monday I didn’t feel well. I spent most time in front of the house reading a book. The weather was perfect for sowing, but I couldn’t do anything in the garden. But I have cooked a good dinner and made a dessert. Before it I milked a goat and gave fresh water to poultry and dogs.

It's so hot from the early morning since a few days... A friend of mine says the water in the lakes around is already very warm. She was swimming two days ago. I think it's the highest time to go swimming! I am afraid to go swimming on my own. I am not a good swimmer. I wish Mick would be here. He is a great surfer brave enough to surf high waves and for sure very good swimmer...

spent most Sunday reading a book and getting tanned by the way. In no time I was red :)))

The potatoe trip

I went by bike to Olecko to buy beautiful plates ideal for pancakes, but instead returned with 3 heavy bags of potatoes :)

After The trip

I am exhausted after yesterday trip to Olecko. I need rest at least 3 days I think :)
And take better care of my animals. Today I found out, that 5 goats got scrambled together. I had to help them to release. Now they are okay. The stallion got his new spot as well. He is fine after the grovermina, so now I can give it to mares aa well without fear.

The strawberry ride

We went to Olecko by bikes. Our aim was to make some essential shopping and hang up around Olecko. It was peculiar trip ;) When we were passing by a field with strawberries, we sensed the sweet, intense, nice strawberry scent and I decided to buy some strawberries for us.
I went to the owner of the strawberry field and asked to sell me 1kg strawberries. Instead, he gave me 3kg. He said it was 3kg. But he didn't have with him the scales, so he just poured the strawberries from a box. It felt like 5kg while I was carrying them in my rucksack.

We went to visit 7 shops while I was trying to find the things we needed.
Mick was grumbling that he would take a book with him if he knew how much time the shopping would last :) It was he, who was usually left with our bikes and the shopping outside, while I was penetrating shops in search of needed things :)

When we got hungry and were after basic shopping which needed to be done before 4 or 5 p.m. since most shops are closed at that time - we went to eat our dinner.

After eating we continued the shopping. We went to petrol station to buy some petrol for my chainsaw. By the way Mick pumped the bikes's wheels using the equipment located at the petrol station.

Then, on our way home, I have decided to do the final shopping. I meant to buy some food mainly, but in the  supermarket they had some nice goods in the friendly prices to which I really coudn't resist, so I bought them. It was a toaster, a ventilator, some colourful plates perfect for pancakes and beautiful and healthy snake plant about which I dreamed before. Apart from that I also bought some food as well. When Mick saw the the amount of shopping I have done he was really shocked, because we really didn't have much place on our bikes and in our rucksacks.

When he saw the snake plant - he burst out of hysterical laughter. But I am a perfectionist in packing, so we managed to locate everything in safe and comfortable way, including the snake plant :)))

The way home was okay, but the backpacks were bloody heavy. We had to do some stops on the way home to rest from the weight and to drink some water or eat some strawberries.
